Prof. Peter Manning

Professor Peter Manning is an Associate Professor of Journalism at the University of Technology, Sydney. He is a Senior Lecturer in Journalism at Monash University and was awarded the Distinguished Teaching Award by the Dean of the Monash School of the Arts in 2010.

Prof. Joyce Nip

Dr Joyce Nip is currently a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Media and Communication and the Department of Chinese Studies at the University of Sydney. Research focuses on the political and social impact of the internet and social media

Prof. Ruosi Lan

Ruosi Lan is a current postgraduate student at the University of Sydney's Master of Arts by Research, having previously completed a taught Master of Media Practice. ruosi is committed to breaking down prejudices about Chinese media management and will be the moderator of this event.


Since 2012, 'telling the story of China' has become an important strategy for expanding the global reach of Chinese media and enhancing China's national image, helping the West to re-examine China's national image. As this serious media image review campaign unfolds, we need to keep an eye on the effects of 'telling China's story' and how it is received in the Western world.
